We understand the special bond our pets have with their humans. It is unlike any other. They bring unconditional love, companionship, and acceptance in any circumstance. The loss of a pet can be inexplicable, especially if it is a first pet or you have children loosing a lifetime companion. This can be a very challenging time for both adults and children. While they may be gone, we keep them forever in our hearts with the memories and imprints they left. Here at Bell Parkway Veterinary Hospital, we treat this time of heartache with the utmost compassion, as many of us have experienced the grief of the loss of our own furry family members in our lives. We strive to be there for you every step of the way, understanding what it is like and helping you understand the process.

pet loss

Euthanasia itself is a very kind and compassionate way of ending your pet’s suffering. The veterinarian will administer a strong sedative to relax your pet and put them in a tranquil state before administering euthanasia solution. Because this can be a very difficult time, some owners may elect not to stay with their pet. On the other hand many want to stay, so that they can comfort them until they are gone. There is no right way. If you choose to stay, we understand how difficult this is, so we try to give you as much time as you need both before and after in a quiet area of the hospital.

At your request, we will provide you with a complimentary ink paw print of your pet as a memory to cherish forever. Those who wish, may have their pet’s ashes returned to them in cedar urn with their name engraved on a metal plaque. Clay paw prints are available for a nominal fee.

Our veterinarians and support team recommend rescue and re-homing of unwanted animals. We reserve the right to not euthanize a healthy pet. Please understand that euthanasia takes a toll not only on the families of the pet, but on the doctors and support staff as well. To ensure that we stay true to this pledge, we may ask you to set an appointment for an exam before the doctor agrees to euthanize a pet. This normally applies only to an animal we are either seeing for the first time or whose condition has changed significantly.

We recently adopted a young pup and needed to get his wellness check done and shots up to date. Empire Ranch is about a 30 minute drive for us, but it is WORTH IT. The office staff was so kind/happy when we walked in and everything was clean (and decorated for the holidays <3 ). We saw Dr. Kurth who was welcoming and gentle with our boy, he didn’t mind being there one bit! We’ve been to other offices in the past (previous state) where it just feels like you’re a number. Empire Ranch welcomes you like you’re family and treats you as such. We have 3 other pets and will definitely be making the drive back.

Plus I love that there’s plenty of parking and the front lobby is big enough people can spread out if they need to.
